Ham Steak & Camembert Melt with Fresh Salad Greens
- 1 large ham steak (about 1 lb)
- 2 tbsp sundried tomato or basil pesto (optional)
- 1 small wheel Camembert cheese (or Brie), sliced (you won’t use the whole wheel, so slice as needed)
- 1 onion, thinly sliced
- 4 slices crusty sour dough bread
- 4 c fresh salad greens
- 1 c cherry tomatoes
- Olive oil and Balsamic to dress salad
- Butter for sauté

Step by Step Instructions
Step 1
Set oven to 350
Melt a little butter in a heavy skillet over medium high heat and sauté the onion until it’s golden brown, remove from pan and set aside.
Place the ham into the same pan and brown on both sides, cut into 4 portions and set aside.
Step 2
Place the sour dough bread in a single layer on a parchment lined baking sheet. Spread each piece of sour dough with sundried tomato or basil pesto (optional – you can use mayo instead), then add a slice of ham, onions, and a few slices of Camembert to each slice of bread. Pop the pan into the oven for about 15 minutes, until cheese is melted. You may wish to put the broiler on for a few minutes to brown the cheese).
Step 3
Share salad greens over four plates, scatter tomatoes over salad and drizzle with olive oil and balsamic. When the cheese has melted on the sandwiches place one sandwich on each plate, serve and enjoy this quick and tasty meal!
